Police Free Arab Who Ran Over Soldiers

In what appears to be another one of the Israel Police’s inexplicable decisions, an Arab taxi driver who rammed into a military vehicle Tuesday, injuring four soldiers, and then fled the scene, was freed by police Thursday after he turned himself in and was questioned. Police said the incident was an accident and not a terror attack.

One of the soldiers suffered moderate wounds, and the other three suffered light wounds.

The collision took place near Neveh Daniel in the Etzion Bloc. The soldiers’ Abir vehicle – a small military truck – had malfunctioned and they were standing next to it, at the side of the road. The Palestinian Authority (PA) taxi smashed into the military vehicle, which hit the soldiers, causing the injuries.

The taxi then sped away. While some of the soldiers said that they thought the collision was an intentional act of terror, the police were quick to say that they believed it was an accident.

The driver, a 52-year-old resident of Yata near Hevron, turned himself in Thursday and told police he had fled because he feared the soldiers. Police freed him after questioning and said that they had determined the collision had been an accident.
