Police on Monday were conducting a citywide search for a yeshiva student who disappeared Sunday night in Jerusalem.
Concern has been mounting over the whereabouts of the student after a “goodby note” was discovered. The student did not specifically say how he intended to “disappear,” but police and family members are gravely concerned he may try to kill himself.
The student, a 22-year-old resident of the capital’s Ramat Eshkol neighborhood, is a student at the prestigious Mir Yeshiva – the largest and one of the most prominent hareidi yeshivas.
The contents of the note were not divulged, but it is believed that despite getting married last month, the student feels very pressured and was despondent.
Police are searching for him primarily in the Lifta area west of the city, based on information police said they had that indicated he had headed there.
Numerous community organizations, including United Hatzalah and the Shomrim Society, have sent out dozens of volunteers to assist in the search.
