One dead, at least three injured in Munich terror attack

A man shouting “Allahu Akbar” ran through a railway station outside of Munich, stabbing travelers waiting to board a train on Tuesday. At least one person was killed and three wounded in the apparent terror attack.

The incident occurred at around 4:50 a.m. local time in the town of Grafing, not far from Munich.

Police report that the attacker, a 27-year old man, is in custody, but have yet to confirm that the attack was indeed an act of terrorism. The state prosecutor’s office did acknowledge that the attack had an apparent “Islamist background”, but have yet to officially categorize it as a terrorist attack.

One of the injured is reportedly in critical condition.

The wounded are all middle-aged men, ages 43, 55, and 58. The fatally-wounded man was 50-years old.

Witnesses reported that the attacker stabbed commuters waiting at the station at random, before bystanders overpowered the assailant and halted the attack.

There are conflicting reports in the German media over the identity of the assailant, now in the custody of local police. Some media outlets have claimed the man is an asylum-seeker of Middle Eastern origin, while others have stated that he is a German-born convert to Islam.

If the incident is confirmed to be an act of Islamist terror, it will be the latest in a wave of terror attacks by radical Muslims across Europe.

In March, suicide bombers believed to be associated with ISIS killed 31 and wounded more than 300 in a series of attacks on a Brussels airport and subway system.

Last November, 130 were killed and nearly 400 wounded in a massive terror attack by the ISIS terror group in Paris.

In January 2015, Islamic terrorists attacked the offices of the Charlie Hebdo magazine in France, as well as the Hypercacher supermarket, which caters primarily to Orthodox Jews. The pair of attacks left 12 dead and 11 injured.
