One Dead After Shots Fired at NSA Headquarters

Terrorists apparently attempted to attack the National Security Agency (NSA) headquarters in Fort Meade, Maryland, on Monday afternoon.

Multiple reports state at 6:00 pm IST (11:00 am local time) that two men, disguised as women, attempted to ram through the NSA security gate. CNN notes that the gates are purposely built far from the actual NSA buildings to prevent attacks like this from escalating.

Live aerial footage showed two vehicles, including a police car, with extensive damage; the two cars apparently collided and the accident has left a large debris field.

Local authorities later confirmed to Fox News in DC that one person was declared dead at the scene; two more have been flown to hospital in Baltimore in serious to critical condition. At least one of the injured is a police officer.

Additional photos by NBC4 show a suspect being arrested.

Around 40,000 people work at the NSA headquarters, including 29,000 civilians; 6,000 military families live at the compound, according to CNN

The NSA refused to comment on the situation; local law enforcement, the Army Criminal Investigation Command, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Department of Homeland Security are investigating, according to the Associated Press
