New York Family Finds Creative Way to Help Needy

Avigdor Glazer z”l passed away some eight years ago from a serious disease, in New York. Before he passed away, he told his parents, Eli and Itta, themselves New York City residents, that he felt he had “not done enough” for his fellow Jews.

He particularly expressed interest in making some kind of contribution to widows and orphans.

After he passed away, his family decided to establish an organization that would help orphans – but in a different manner than the usual way. Each year, before the holiday of Shavuot, many families in New York prepare baked goods and bring them to the family

. The baked goods are then sold, in a “bake sale,” which takes place at 7PM on the night of Shavuot. The proceeds are all donated to the needy.

This is the seventh year that this program is taking place. The program has since expanded to other cities, and to towns in Israel.
