Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu made use of the weekly government session Sunday – the first of 2014 – to sum up his current coalition’s accomplishments in its first year, 2013.

“In 2013, according to official statistics, there was the lowest number of terror victims in a decade,” he said. “This is not an accidental thing. This is the result of a very clear policy of prevention and thwarting. Of quick response, as well as continuous prevention against those who want us dead.”

Regarding the economy, Netanyahu said: “In 2013, unemployment reached 5.5%, according to the latest report. That is a continuation of the trend of the financial policy that we led in the four years that preceded this government’s single year, and it is a welcome continuation.”

“In addition to security and the economy,” he went on, “at the end of 2013 we see a complete stopping of the phenomenon of infiltration into Israel, and at the same time, the number of infiltrators to leave Israel has grown sixfold – more than 2,600 infiltrators. I want to emphasize that these are not refugees. These are lawbreakers to whom we are applying the full extent of the law.”

Netanyahu also spoke about the “incitement index,” a periodic report regarding incitement in the Palestinian Authority. “This incitement, I regret to say, is continuing. We saw aspects of this in the last few days, as well. The resistance continues – first of all, to recognition of the Jewish state, and also to our right to be here.

“We are not strangers in Beit El, we are not strangers in Hevron,” Netanyahu said, mentioning two Biblical Jewish settlements that have been revived in modern Israel. “I repeat that this is the root of the conflict, and in my mind it is also the root of the incitement, which does not recognize this fact.”
