Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has ordered security forces to immediately evacuate the Arabs who have gathered in the area between Maale Adumim and Jerusalem, known as E1.
To this end, the State said it would, on Saturday evening, request that the High Court of Justice rescind the injunction that it had issued, which is delaying the evacuation.
Until the High Court responds to the State’s motion, the Prime Minister has ordered the closure of access roads to the area in order to prevent gatherings. At this stage, the area has been declared a closed military zone and IDF forces have surrounded the outpost.
Arab activists set up an outpost Friday in the Maaleh Adumim area just east of Jerusalem. The area in question was recently opened to construction for Israelis.
“We have set up 20 tents, and have enough equipment to stay here for a long time,” Abir Kopty, spokeswoman for the Popular Struggle Coordination Committee, told Agence France Presse.
Kopty told AFP that more than 200 PA residents were camping at the site which they had named Bab al-Shams, or ‘gate of the sun,’ which is located in a corridor of land between the edge of Jerusalem and Maaleh Adumim.
