Netanyahu: Nuclear Iran Threatens Global Security

“The IAEA report corroborates the position of the international community, and of Israel, that Iran is developing nuclear weapons.

“The significance of the report is that the international community must bring about the cessation of Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons which endanger the peace of the world and of the Middle East.”

Netanyahu’s remarks were penned the day after the International Atomic Energy Agency published a report that indicated Iran had sought – and may still be seeking – nuclear technology with strictly military applications.

Iran immediately dismissed the report as “laptop lies,” while President Mahmoud Ahmadinijad said Iran wouldn’t back down “one iota” from its nuclear ambitions on Wednesday.

Prior to the report’s release Iran openly threatened Israel, Europe, and the United States with a ‘street war’ should its nuclear facilities be attacked.

The threats came after an intense storm of unsubstantiated media speculation Israel and the UK were both considering separate strikes on Iran’s nuclear program.

Iranian officials have, for years, referred to Israel as a “one bomb state” while vocally advocating its destruction.

MK Shaul Mofaz (Kadima) on Tuesday telgraphed Netanyahu’s position saying Iran’s nuclear program was “not just a Jewish problem.”
