Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has said that he hopes to see real results from the United States agreement with Russia to eliminate Syria’s stockpile of chemical weapons.

Netanyahu’s remarks, made during the memorial ceremony for fallen soldiers of the Yom Kippur War, come a day after the deal was reached following three days of talks in Geneva between U.S. Senator John Kerry and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov.

“We hope that the understandings reached between the U.S. and Russia will bear results. The test of results also applies to the international community’s efforts to stop Iran from gaining nuclear weapons,” Netanyahu stated, adding that, “Here, too, words shall not determine the outcome, but actions. “

The PM continued to address the memorial ceremony itself, acknowledging Israel’s fallen and wounded soldiers.

“With a bowed head and with gratitude we commemorate the heroism of fallen during the Yom Kippur War. There were thousands injured, some of them still carrying their scars today. And so today, we mourn with the families carrying their loss.”

“I know your pain. My heart is with your heart,” Netanyahu expressed. 

“It is the obligation of the nation’s leadership to supervise, instead of being led by illusions and false hopes. [Israel] must always be prepared in time to ensure the existence of the State of Israel.”
