Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton agreed Monday night in a “photo op” for the media prior to getting down to business that “the world is changing fast.”

The prime minister and the secretary of state smiled for the cameras and talked about how they planned to discuss events in Egypt, and the nuclear threat in Iran. Speaking before their meeting, Netanyahu said that the two were going to “discuss how the world is changing so quickly, especially in our region.

“I am especially looking forward to hearing your impressions of Egypt, which has in the past been an anchor of peace and observance of the peace treaty with Israel. This is very important for us, and I appreciate the efforts you have put into this issue,” Netanyahu told Clinton, who arrived in Israel Sunday from Cairo.

Netanyahu also said that he and Clinton would discuss the Palestinian Authority, and especially Iran.

“We will discuss our joint commitment to promise that Iran will not reach its goals of achieving nuclear weapons,” he added.

Clinton responded by affirming Netanyahu’s views on the changing world. The changes were without precedent, she said, and must be dealt with properly to ensure peace and security for Israel, the Middle East, and the U.S., she added. 

Earlier Sunday, Clinton met with President Shimon Peres, but most of her public remarks were gracefully dedicated to praising the aging and ageless president. President Peres did the talking for Clinton, stating:

“Even if you’ve got your baby, you cannot make him run when he is one year old, even when he’s ten years old – it takes time but we should not stop. The Palestinians don’t have a better alternative, and we don’t have a better alternative. We agreed on most of the issues, we made most of the road, and now we have to try and conclude it for the benefit of all peoples.”
