NBC Sportscaster Bob Costas to Recognize Slain Israeli Athletes

NBC sportscaster Bob Costas plans to call out the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for denying Israel’s request for a moment of silence acknowledging the massacre of 11 Israeli athletes and coaches at the 1972 Games.
Costas intends to make his remarks as the Israeli delegation enters the 80,000-seat Olympic Stadium for the Olympics’ Opening Ceremony, which coincides with the 40th anniversary of the Munich massacre.
“I intend to note that the IOC denied the request,” he told the Hollywood Reporter. “Many people find that denial more than puzzling but insensitive. Here’s a minute of silence right now.”
Jacques Rogge, president of the IOC, once again denied the request to hold one moment of silence for the slain Israel athletes killed 40 years ago by ‘Palestinian’ terrorists affiliated with the Black September group.
“We feel that the Opening Ceremony is an atmosphere that is not fit to remember such a tragic incident,” Rogge said at a news conference inside the Olympic Park.
Yet, while the IOC continues to reject the simple plea, Costas will add his voice to those who believe that 40 years, has indeed, been long enough to wait.
“There’s a reality in business; there were times when I thought he got too forceful,” said Dick Ebersol, Costa’s former producer at NBC. “But I’m very proud of the fact that Bob was able to be Bob.”
