Mother and daughter drown in tragic accident

A 30-year-old woman and her 12-year-old daughter drowned in two separate tragic accidents on a beach in Bat Yam Tuesday evening.

Magen David Adom (MDA) paramedics first resuscitated the 12-year-old girl, before evacuating her to Wolfson Hospital in critical condition.

At around the same time, emergency services attempted to resuscitate a 30-year-old woman who had drowned nearby, but were forced to declare her death shortly afterwards.

Israeli police say they are checking the possibility that a third person was with them at the time, but at this stage they haven’t located anyone.

Raphael Berkatz from the United Hatzalah emergency service described the scene.

“We are talking about a woman and her daughter who drowned. Together with other United Hatzalah volunteers we began resuscitation measures on the girl who was pulled out of the waters at Tobego beach.”

As they were treating her “we were told that a woman had also been pulled from the sea on the nearby Dekalim Beach, and that she had no pulse and wasn’t breathing.”

Some of the paramedics rushed to the scene of that incident, but were ultimately unable to save the woman.
