MK Zohar tries to delay Amona destruction

MK Miki Zohar (Likud) has submitted a bill to ensure that the government would allow a reasonable length of time for carrying out administrative destruction orders.

The period would also be extended by seven years if the government provided an infrastructure for buildings in which people have resided during the previous ten years.

In his explanation to the bill, MK Zohar wrote about numerous cases in which the Supreme Court ordered the government to evacuate and demolish buildings, neighborhoods or communities, then extended the time limit due to complications with the evacuations.

Zohar noted that evacuating residents and their families is not a simple task and requires the involvement of various government ministries and authorities. This is even more apparent when evacuating entire neighborhoods or communities.

“When the government is involved in housing residents, whether removing or assisting them, there is no doubt that the government is obliged to provide them with reasonable alternative housing and compensation, so we must extend the time limit for evacuating buildings marked for destruction in order to not hurt the residents’ civil rights.”

He added: “We must do everything possible in order to limit the damage to the evacuees and to allow the government a more significant period of time for carrying out the evacuation.”

The bill’s immediate aim is to delay the destruction of Amona.
