MK Aryeh Eldad said Thursday that Israel had failed to think outside the box in trying to bring home abducted soldier Gilad Shalit.
He spoke at a conference hosted by the Herzliya Interdisciplinary Center.
“Israel had a problem in that it gave up on thinking outside the box, about ways of action that are neither a ‘military option’ nor a trade,” he said. “I suggested that Israel simply give an ultimatum: tell Hamas that if it does not release Shalit, we will eliminate one terrorist leader every week in Gaza. Because one can use terror against terror.”
Eldad called Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu “spineless” and sarcastically called for all of the people who had purchased Netanyahu’s anti-terror book “A Place Under the Sun” to file a class action lawsuit and demand their money back.
The former IDF Chief Medical Officer said that the reason that Hamas demanded 1,000 terrorists in return for Shalit was the same as the reason taught in first year veterinary school, for why a dogs licks his private parts: “Because he can!”
He added that the public pressure for freeing Shalit was “mass psychosis, and not brotherly love and comradeship.”
