MK blows off Knesset meeting to party in Eilat

November 4, 2015

MK Oren Hazan (Likud) has come under fire yet again – this time over reports he blew off a Knesset Finance Committee meeting to celebrate his birthday in Eilat.

Hazan, who turned 34 last week, reportedly told committee members on Tuesday that he would be absent from a critical vote on the state budget because of “something important.”

However, WhatsApp correspondence between the committee members revealed he would be missing the vote because of a large-scale party in Israel’s southern resort town.

According to the messages published by Channel 10 on Wednesday, Hazan apologized, saying he would be unable to attend the meeting on Thursday because of plans to visit Eilat.

When asked to change his travel itinerary, Hazan replied: “Move the meeting. I can’t postpone the trip.”

While the purpose of his trip has not been determined, Channel 10 estimates it is connected to Hazan’s birthday celebrations which apparently began last weekend in Tel Aviv.

In response, coalition officials have demanded that Hazan be removed from the Knesset Finance Committee.
