Minister: Missiles May Delay Part 2 of Shalit Release
October 31, 2011
Home Front Minister Matan Vilnai said Monday morning that the missile fire on Israel’s South may cause a postponement in the implementation of the second part of the Shalit deal.
Part 2 of the deal involves the release of 550 terror prisoners from Israeli jails.
Speaking on IDF Radio, Vilnai noted that Gaza terror groups have not targeted communities in the Dan Bloc – Israel’s most densely populated region, which includes Tel Aviv and its environs – in the current round of aggression. However, he said, the range to which they fire their missiles could grow in the future.
Despite Home Front instructions to continue life normally, children did not attend school in Be’er Sheva, Ashdod, Ashkelon and Gan Yavneh Monday, because of the security situation. The rest of the local authorities decided to heed the Home Front’s instructions and kept the schools open.
Ben Gurion University in Be’er Sheva and the Academic College in Ashkelon opened the new academic year Monday. Day care centers under the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor are also operating normally.
