Meretz Judea-Samaria Label Bill ‘Will Only Harm Palestinians’

In response to the bill submitted several days ago by the radical leftist Meretz party, which would have products from Judea and Samaria labeled thereby singling them out for boycotts, Efrat regional council chair Attorney Oded Ravivi on Wednesday called on the party to rethink the proposal.

“The Meretz party decided to label 400,000 Israelis, all of them tax payers, donating to the state in terms of culture and economy, and among them educators with international recognition, hi-tech developers, pioneers in the food industry, technology, members of the army standing on the front line, vineyards that won international prizes, and factories among the largest and newest in the Middle East, “said Ravivi.

While the Meretz bill – modeled on European Union measures to label Jewish products from Judea-Samaria – was evidently intended to pressure Israel to eventually withdraw from its Biblical heartland of Judea and Samaria and create a Palestinian state there, the regional head warned “peace” would not be the outcome of the move.

Ravivi warned the bill “will bring about an economic disaster for thousands of Palestinians and will hit us back like a boomerang, it will collapse Israeli families.”

His reference to Palestinian Arabs comes in context of the many Arab workers employed by Jews in Judea and Samaria, whose income will be cut off by the move.

The Efrat head called on Meretz to visit his district of Efrat, located in the Gush Etzion region of Judea.

“I invite Meretz head Zehava Galon to the Efrat regional council to see coexistence, to see how it is possible to live beyond the Green Line and be hosted by Palestinian neighbors, to live with respect and to give respect (to others),” he said.

Ravivi continued, “this bill won’t bring us to peace, rather the opposite – it will lead us to anti-Semitism that is on the rise, it will lead us to distancing from the Palestinians who work shoulder to shoulder with their Jewish neighbors.”

Addressing Galon, he said, “if the good of the state and peace are important to you, remove this bill from the docket now.”

Science, Technology and Space Minister Danny Danon (Likud) on Monday told Arutz Sheva he will fight the Meretz legislation, saying, “we are all aware of the boycotts that are coming from the outside but to see MKs coming and saying to boycott products by Israeli citizens is a twisted notion and we will not let it happen.”
