MDA outraged after Red Crescent ignores Jewish victims

Israel’s emergency response service Magen David Adom has come out against the Palestinian Red Crescent following reports one of its ambulances passed by the site of Friday’s deadly terrorist attack and ignored the victims as they lay dying.

MDA Director-General Eli Bin blasted the move, accusing the Red Crescent of acting as if they operated in “a third-world country.”

“For us it’s very serious,” Bin told Channel 10 on Sunday. “Magen David Adom personnel are taught to treat all wounded regardless of their religion. We call on the president of the International Committee of the Red Cross to examine the issue and bring justice.”

The Israeli government also announced Saturday night intentions to launch an international campaign against the Red Crescent.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu ordered the foreign ministry to lodge a stern complaint with the International Committee of the Red Cross in Geneva, under whose auspices the Red Crescent operates, demanding an explanation as to why the Palestinian ambulance ignored Israeli victims, contrary to all humanitarian and ethical practices.

Netanyahu relayed that according to Noa Litman, whose husband and son were killed in the attack, the Red Crescent ambulance did stop but refused to treat the victims after learning they were Jewish Israelis.

Magen David Adom itself has confirmed that when its own medics arrived on scene, they discovered a Red Crescent ambulance loitering nearby without providing medical help to the victims of the attack.
