Livni: Netanyahu’s Decision Shows Leadership

Justice Minister Tzipi Livni, who is in charge of negotiations with the Palestinian Authority, said Saturday that by bringing about the decision to restart negotiations with the PA, “we have proved that there is hope.”

“Israel is entering the negotiations, which I hope will start soon, while safeguarding its security and national interests,” Livni told Channel 2‘s Meet the Press.

“All topics will be on the table,” she said, “but inside the room – we will have to act responsibly. It will be very complex and complicated but it is very important.”

Regarding the possibility that terrorist prisoners will be released as a “gesture” to the PA, Livni said: “There is nothing in the agreements that were reached that can cause anyone in the government, nationalist ministers included, not to agree to enter the negotiating room.”

As for the identities of the prisoners that will be released, she said that “if I have to choose what prisoners Israel releases… and Israel’s prime ministers over the generations, including Menachem Begin, released prisoners… I prefer those who acted before there was a peace arrangement, those who have been serving 25 years and more, over those who acted in order to derail the process, including Hamas men.”
