Yisrael Beytenu chairman and former Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman called for a “diplomatic war” against Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas on Thursday, after the PA officially submitted its “war crimes” case against Israel at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The PA submitted several hundred documents to the ICC with claims of Arab residents concerning the Jewish presence in Judea and Samaria, the IDF’s conduct in last summer’s counter-terror operation, and the treatment of jailed terrorists.

Liberman called the move “additional proof, to those who still needed it, that Abbas is not a partner and isn’t interested in a peace deal with Israel but rather in clashes and an attempt to force a unilateral agreement via diplomatic terror.”

The PA’s unilateral signing of international treaties, such as the one which allowed it to sue Israel at the ICC, were in fact a breach of the 1993 Oslo Accords that created the PA.

“Everyone who insists on closing their eyes should open them and understand that as long as Abbas is the leader of the Palestinians there’s no chance for an improvement in relations between Israel and the Palestinians,” added Liberman.

He called on Israel to treat Abbas as an enemy, and “to respond with intense diplomatic warfare on all the diplomatic fronts.”

Abbas torpedoed the last round of peace talks with Israel last April when, aside from unilaterally signing international treaties, he sealed a unity deal with the Hamas terrorist organization.

Liberman called for Hamas to be destroyed as part of coalition talks, and when that and other conditions were not met he refused to join the government. 

In his elections campaign he proposed giving the massive “triangle” region in northern Israel that contains roughly 300,000 Arab citizens of Israel to the PA to be included in a Palestinian state.
