Liberman: Abbas is Just Like Arafat

Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman reacted to Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas’s comments at a rally marking 10 years since the death of Yasser Arafat, saying the two PA leaders are very similar – but that Abbas is “more dangerous.”

During his speech in Ramallah, Abbas declared that “the Muslim world will not accept Israel’s conditions that Jerusalem belongs to them. Jerusalem is our capital and we won’t give up on it – Jerusalem which was conquered in 1967 is our Jerusalem!”

Abbas further called on the government of Israel to remove “settlers” from “Muslim holy sites” – a reference to Judaism’s holiest site the Temple Mount, which the PA claims was never a Jewish site and is purely Muslim.

“We won’t allow our holy places to be defiled,” Abbas said.

Abbas struck a similar note last month when he called on Palestinians to prevent Jews from visiting the Temple Mount using “all necessary means” – comments which provoked angry condemnations by Israel. Abbas and his PA have been blamed for much of the recent Arab violence via incitement both in speeches and official PA media.

“On the ten year anniversary of Arafat’s death, we see that there is no difference between Arafat and Abu-Mazen (Abbas): They are both Jew-haters that believe in terror and promote terror,” Liberman said.

“The only difference is that Abu Mazen is more dangerous, because he knows how to hide his true face better.”
