Levin Blasts ‘Irresponsible’ Meir Dagan for Rally Tirade

Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, MK Yariv Levin (Likud) condemned former Mossad chief Meir Dagan Saturday night, after the later spoke at a leftist rally in Tel Aviv with some 30,000 in attendance.

“The irresponsible chatter of Meir Dagan causes great damage to national security,” Levin fired. “Dagan’s politically motivated acts of hatred are clear and his hatred for the Prime Minister has long blinded his ability to see reality.”

“The damage is even worse when Dagan’s dangerous statements are fully exploited by Iranian propaganda to condemn Israel,” he added.

“Just as the Prime Minister campaigns against Iran, a mission of historical importance to prevent arming Iran with a nuclear bomb, Dagan dares to harm Israeli efforts to systematically secure us all,” he continued. “The former Mossad chief, who fulfilled such a sensitive role in the defense establishment, must be patient, accept it, and not use his past so flagrantly to adversely affect the future citizenry of Israel.”

Dagan attacked Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu at the rally earlier Saturday, blaming him for the summer war and for the current security situation.

“Israel is a country surrounded by enemies, but the enemies do not scare me,” he said. “I’m afraid of our leadership. I fear the lack of vision and loss of the path. I’m afraid of indecision and stagnation. I’m afraid, above all, of a crisis of leadership. And the leadership crisis here is the most serious we have had to date.”

“I do not want a binational state,” he continued. “I do not want us to become an apartheid state. I do not want sovereignty over another three million Arabs. I do not want us to remain hostages to fear, despair and stagnation.”
