Rescue teams have rescued 20 Israelis trapped in Nepal’s mountain ranges on Tuesday, three days after a devastating earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale. As of Tuesday morning, the death toll stood at 4,352, with 8,063 confirmed injured.

However, about 50 Israelis still remain unaccounted for, most of them in the northern mountain regions that were hit by avalanches in the wake of Sunday’s aftershocks. 

Meanwhile, 20 Chabad representatives in Kathmandu have embarked on the difficult task of identifying bodies, as locals have begun stacking the dead and burning them – without the consent of local authorities – to prevent infection. Jews must be buried, not cremated, according to Jewish law. 

The Israeli IDF delegation is closely arranging the rescue operation with Nepalese authorities, as rescue efforts intensify due to time pressures and reports of attacks on tourists by locals.  

“We are putting a lot of pressure on local support system to help rescue the Israelis,” an Israeli rescue mission officer stated to Walla! News Tuesday.

The delegation reported that the crew of a helicopter that came to rescue hikers local area were attacked by locals who wanted to loot the contents of the helicopter – water, food and equipment – and severely beat the pilot.

Israeli rescue efforts have begun reaching out to locals as well, with photos from Magen David Adom revealing that field hospitals are fully operational.
