Last-Minute Petition to Keep Sbarro Terrorist in Jail
October 16, 2011The parents of a teenage victim of the Sbarro Restaurant suicide bombing have launched a last-minute petition to convince the government to keep the terrorist in jail.
Arnold and Frimet Roth lost their daughter Malki in the attack in the center of Jerusalem, where 15 others lost their lives and dozens of others were wounded.
Ahlam Tamimi, a 31-year-old woman who not only drove the suicide bomber to carry out the massacre but also helped plan the attack, said from her jail cell, “I’m not sorry for what I did. I will get out of prison, and I refuse to recognize Israel’s existence. Discussions will only take place after Israel recognizes that this is Islamic land.”
Israel’s agreement to free Tamimi and 1,026 other terrorists and security prisoners in return for kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit stipulates that Tamimi will be deported to Jordan.
The petition states, “If released, Tamimi will have her life to live, despite having been sentenced in a court of law after a full and proper trial to sixteen consecutive life sentences. The thought that she will become a wife and mother, be honored by her community and others, and become an inspiration to young formative minds in the Arab world is horrifying and unacceptable.
“It is unfathomable that such a proud and unrepentant terrorist be granted freedom under any circumstances.
Arnold Roth, father of Malki, wrote in a persoanl e-mail, “This is a very personal, heartfelt request to sign a petition that we created in the last few hours, online here.
“Under normal circumstances, requests to sign a petition are unlikely to lead to any significant outcomes. In this case, we are hoping to do something important.
“This petition asks for the removal of one specific name from the list of more than 1,000 terrorists, including hundreds of convicted murderers….
“The deal [for Shalit] involves Israel throwing open the gates of its top-security prisons and issuing wholesale pardons. My wife Frimet and I have expressed our principled objection to the deal. “While others are busy trying to stop it in the courts, we are focusing our energies on one specific person, and getting her off the list.
“Time is very limited. We really only have until Sunday (today) to get a significant number of signatures. If we succeed, we can then put pressure on the Prime Minister’s Office and the Justice Ministry and publicize this in the media.
“Together with our friends and their friends, we hope – despite the odds – to do something constructive in the face of the terrible transaction being done with the terrorists of Hamas.”
