Knights Light Up the Nights of the Old City of Jerusalem

November 12, 2011

On Thursday evenings throughout the month of November, Jerusalem’s Old City is being taken back in time.

The Jerusalem Knights Festival features street performers in the alleyways of the Old City. Anyone who comes out will meet court jesters, princes, princesses and more medieval characters as they walk through the Christian quarter of the Old City.

Arutz Sheva visited the Knights Festival this past Thursday to pick up on some of its sights and sounds.

“Jerusalem, especially the Old City, is a great platform for such a festival,” Jackie Bachar, the festival’s producer and artistic director, said.

The Old City’s little streets, pathways and stones, he explained, provide a great atmosphere for the audience and also inspire the performing artists.

Bachar outlined all the reasons why such a festival is a good thing for the city of Jerusalem.

“First of all, there are many tourists in Jerusalem every day,” he said. “[The festival] provides another cultural option and allows the tourists to visit another area of the city, not only during the day but also at night.

“The other reason is that the festival gives Jerusalem an option to establish an international festival in the city for Israelis as well as for tourists,” added Bachar.

The Jerusalem Knights Festival is free of charge and suitable for the entire family. For more details visit www.jerusalemknights.org.il/en.html
