Killers of Shin Bet Officer and Teenage Girl to be Released
October 17, 2011The murderer of Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) officer Noam Cohen will be released in the Gilad Shalit exchange deal. Cohen, a resident of the Kiryat Moshe neighborhood in Jerusalem, left his home to conduct a security operation with fellow officers in Ramallah on February 13, 1994.
At least three terrorists opened fire with automatic weapons in an ambush on Cohen’s vehicle at the Bitounia junction in the Ramallah area. Sixty-two bullets hit the car, moderately wounding Cohen’s colleagues, who were still able to shoot in return. Cohen stepped outside the vehicle to return fire but was critically wounded and died later. Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack.
Cohen left behind his parents, a sister, Menucha, and a brother, Moshe, who is an IDF officer in a combat unit.
The murderer of Helena Rapp, a 15-year old Israeli school girl, will also be released. Rapp was killed in a stabbing attack carried out on May 24, 1992, by an Arab terrorist in the Israeli coastal city of Bat Yam, for which Islamic Jihad took responsibility. Rapp was on her way to the bus stop in order to get to school when the attack took place. The perpetrator, who was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment, is among the many killers about to be freed.
Helena’s father, Ze’ev Rapp, was shocked to learn that his daughter’s murderer, Fouad Amrin who is now 38, was included in the list of prisoners set to be released. Rapp has devoted his life to memorializing his daughter in public activities and campaigns.
