Kerry to be Released from Hospital

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is to be released from the hospital after undergoing successful surgery on the broken leg he fractured nearly two weeks ago, an official said Friday, according to The Associated Press (AP).

The official said Kerry will be discharged from Massachusetts General Hospital on Friday but would remain in Boston for the time being as he continues to recover.

Kerry broke his right femur on May 31 in a bicycle accident in France, and underwent successful surgery several days later.

At the time of his injury, Kerry was busy in talks with Iran, as the Islamic Republic and the six world powers hold ongoing discussions aimed at turning a preliminary deal into a permanent one by a June 30 deadline.

The White House stressed, however, that it would continue to pursue nuclear talks with Iran despite Kerry’s injury, and that Kerry would continue to play a critical role in the talks as he recovers.
