Jews Light Samaria Highway with Menorahs for Festival of Lights

The roads of Samaria (Shomron), so often poorly lit throughout the year, will glow this week with the giant public Jewish menorahs used for the Festival of Lights.

The Samaria Regional Council has erected the giant candelabras for the Hanukkah holiday all along the part of Highway 60 that goes through Judea and Samaria, to publicize the miracle that gave birth to the holiday.

Highway 60 goes from Beer Sheva in the south to Nazareth in the north. Most of the road is in Judea and Samaria. It is also called “The Patriarchs’ Road” as it follows the description of Abraham and Jacob’s travels in the Bible.

The glow of the candelabras will light up the route for the 300,000 residents of Judea and Samaria who regularly travel along that road, announced Samaria Regional Council head Gershon Mesika.

“It is good to remember that on Hanukkah, we residents of Yesha (Judea and Samaria/Yehuda and Shomron) represent the light of the struggle to settle the land of Israel,” Mesika reminded.

“A little light can drive away all the darkness of incitement against us,” he said.
