Jerusalem Stabbing: Man in Serious Condition

A Jerusalem man is in serious condition after being stabbed Wednesday afternoon in Liberty Bell Park.

The 40-year-old man was stabbed in the back and hand, according to Israel Police spokesman Mickey Rosenfeld.

He was treated at the scene by Magen David Adom paramedics before being rushed to Jerusalem’s Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center.

Police immediately threw a dragnet around the area and stopped a vehicle that may have been carrying a possible suspect, a local source said, but details about the incident are still hazy, as is the motive for the attack.

“Police units continue to search the Jerusalem area for suspects behind the stabbing,” Rosenfeld said in a release to media, adding that an investigation has been launched.

It is not yet clear whether the attack was criminal in nature, or was nationalist-motivated and thus considered a terror attack.

In what might have been a related incident another man was also stabbed and lightly wounded at the Damascus Gate entrance to the Old City in the capital. Police are investigating to determine whether the stabbings are linked.
