It’s Official: Jerusalemites Have More Fun

May 17, 2015

According to survey data published Sunday by the Central Statistics Bureau, a full 88% of adult Jerusalem residents reported that they are pleased with their lives, compared with 85% nationwide.

Ninety percent of the Jewish residents of Jerusalem said they are pleased with their lives, compared with 88% of the Jews in the rest of the cities and communities in Israel. In the Arab sector, 85% of Jerusalem residents said they are pleased with their lives, compared to 70% in other cities and communities.

The poll results were released to coincide with Jerusalem Day, which commemorates the liberation of Jerusalem – along with Judea, Samaria, the Golan Heights, Gaza and the Sinai Desert – during the 1967 Six Day War.

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat reacted to the survey by saying that the data comes as no surprise.

“Jerusalem has turned into a leading city in Israel, which affords its residents a quality of life that is one of the best nationwide. The data only prove what we always say – there is no place like Jerusalem.”

The Rikudegalim – Flag Dance parade began at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, to mark Jerusalem Day. At 8:00 p.m., the central Jerusalem Day rally will take place at Mercaz Harav Yeshiva.
