Confirming with science what countless people already believe, a recently published study found that beautiful women are more likely to be concerned with themselves and to conform with social norms than the general population.
The study, conducted by Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Open University researchers, asked over 100 women to fill out a questionnaire evaluating their personality type. Then, another group used video recordings of the women to rate their attractiveness.
The results, reported by the Huffington Post and first published in the November issue of Psychological Science, found that ”attractiveness correlated with values that express the motivation to conform and submit to social expectations, and with values that express a focus on self-promotion rather than on concern for others.”
The study also found that people tend to perceive beautiful women as having “socially desirable traits, such as extroversion, openness to experience, and conscientiousness,” even if they do not, in fact, possess such traits.
