Israeli Killed in Hit-And-Run Southeast of Boston

An Israeli citizen was killed during a hit-and-run crash on the Sagamore Bridge in Bourne, southeast of Boston, on Wednesday, Massachusetts State Police said, according to Boston.com.

The police on Friday appealed to the public for help in locating a dark pickup truck that apparently triggered the fatal chain reaction crash, reported the website.

The pickup truck was merging from the Scenic Highway onto Route 6 eastbound when the left front side of the truck collided with a 2004 GMC Sierra, which was also heading eastbound and approaching the bridge, the State Police said.

The impact between the truck and the Sierra sent the Sierra across the median and into the westbound lanes of traffic where it slammed into a 2012 Chrysler minivan being driven by the Israeli man, State Police said, according to Boston.com.

The Israeli man was fatally injured and several passengers in his vehicle were injured and taken to area hospitals, State Police said. The vehicle was rented in New Jersey.

A spokesman for the Israel consul general told Boston.com that the people in the van were vacationing in Massachusetts after recently celebrating the Bar Mitzvah of one of the passengers.

In total, there were three adults and three children in the van at the time of the crash, the spokesman said.

The survivors are being assisted by the Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island.

The man’s wife is en route from Israel to Massachusetts, according to the consul general’s office.

The driver of the Sierra, a 43-year-old Sandwich man, was also injured and was taken to South Shore Hospital for treatment of what State Police called serious injuries. His name was not released.

State Police are looking for the pickup truck and its driver.

“We are seeking a dark-colored pickup truck, possibly with minor to moderate damage to its left front end or left side, which was last seen leaving the scene heading east on Route 6,’’ the State Police statement said.
