Israel Has Treasured Nation Status

An advisor to Presidents and high level political figures told me to never get down or depressed.

Remember, he told me “you are a descendant of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob”. No one can hold a candle to the Jewish People. These political figures need you. I would be the first to tell the Prime Minister of Israel the very same thing especially at this critical moment in World History. Remember Prime Minister of Israel you are a descendant of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Stay strong and be not afraid, the G-d of Israel will guide you through the toughest of times and you will succeed. The Drama the world is now seeing unfolding over the Catastrophic Iran Deal is right here in Parshat Re’eh for all to see. “For you are a Holy People to Hashem, your G-d, and Hashem has Chosen you for Himself to be a Treasured People, from among all the peoples on the face of the earth” (14:2). The Sefas Emes points out there are are 3 distinctions made in this Posuk.

First, Bnei Yisrael are Holy (Am Kadosh). Second, Bnei Yisrael are Chosen (Bachar Hashem). Third, Bnei Yisrael are Treasured(Am Segulah). He further relates each of these distinctions to: 1)The Neshama, 2)the Nefesh, and 3)the Body(Gufe). G-d Almighty, has a special attachment to each Jewish individual in all of his or her aspects. The Ramban analyzes the Posuk from the point of view that Am Kadosh means that G-d Almighty promises each and every Jew the continued existence of Departed Souls before G-d, may He be Blessed, in the World to Come. A Jewish Soul never dies.

This is something the Nazis(Umachemam) never could understand. The Ramban further elaborates that the Am Segulah and Am Kadosh both relate to this promise that G-d will not remove a Jewish Soul (Neshama) from existence. The Ramban says that excessive mourning by cutting oneself or making bald spots is not allowed because a Jew in essence never really dies. The Neshama lives on for Eternity. The Sefas Emes and the Ramban dovetail upon each other from different vantage points. Am Kadosh (Holy People) according to both relate to the Jewish Soul (Neshama). Now to understanding, G-d’s intent in calling the Jewish People an Am Segulah (Treasured People or Nation). The Or Ha’Chaim defines Segulah as a charm that supersedes Logic.

A Segulah defies the Laws of Nature. The Jewish People defy Logic and the Laws of Nature. Even the writer Leo Tolstoy who according to most was an Ant-Semite said about the survival of the Jewish People despite thousands of years of persecution , “The Jew is eternal. He is the embodiment of eternity”. The Netziv makes the point that the Jewish People are G-d’s Treasure. Before Matan Torah anyone was able to serve G-d in their own way. But once the Torah was given the only way to become a Servant of G-d is to become a Jew. Even though all Nations belong to Hashem, the Posuk is saying there is only one Treasury-Bnei Yisrael.

One cannot be treasured, by G-d ,unless one is a Jew in that Treasury. This is what is meant, to have achieved “Treasured Nation” status in the Torah. When President Obama says Israel will stand alone and be isolated, he does not realize who the Jew is and what he is made of. He has no concept that the Jewish People are an Am Segulah. We are never alone, because G-d Almighty has our Back and not just in words but in thousands of years of Deeds. The Prime Minister of Israel must remember this too. Shabbat Shalom
