Is There a ‘Confidence Gap’ Between Men and Women?

Why are women still under-represented at the helm of large corporations? Veteran journalist and best-selling author Claire Shipman will try to shed light on the topic in a talk at Yeshiva University next Monday, November 17.

In the lecture, Shipman will discuss her latest book: “The Confidence Code: The Art and Science of Self-Assurance – What Women Should Know.” Shipman, a senior contributor to ABC News‘ “Good Morning America” and other programs, co-authored the book with Katty Kay of the BBC.

The book posits there is a “confidence gap” between men and women that holds women back, and looks for methods to help women build confidence and succeed professionally.

The Robbins-Wilf Scholar-in-Residence program (of YU’s Stern College) is pleased to host Claire Shipman,” said Bryan Daves, clinical assistant professor of political science at YU and moderator of the event.

“It is important for our students to understand the sometimes hidden barriers to professional advancement in the workplace today, and to learn from the women who have successfully tackled these challenges,” Daves added.

Before joining ABC News in 2001, Shipman served as White House correspondent for NBC News, and prior to that worked at CNN for a decade, where she also primarily covered issues concerning the White House.

Previously she paired up with Kay on another book, “Womenomics: The Workplace Revolution That Will Change Your Life,” which was a New York Times best-seller.

The lecture next Monday will be held in Manhattan at 7:30 p.m. at the Moot Court Room of YU’s Cardozo School of Law on 55 Fifth Ave. at 12th Street. It is free and open to the public with valid ID and a ticket, which can be reserved at Smarttix.com or by calling (212) 868-4444.
