IDF Tightens Security at Judea-Samaria Checkpoints for Holidays

Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon has decided to close roads leading into and out of Judea and Samaria  for Palestinian Authority (PA) residents from Sunday evening to Tuesday night, the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit announced Saturday, citing concerns over terrorism close to Israel’s Memorial Day and Independence Day.

PA residents will be restricted from entering or leaving Judea and Samaria from 6:00 pm Sunday evening until 11:59PM Tuesday night, the statement said.

Humanitarian missions, medical emergencies, and special trips will be allowed through the checkpoints in coordination with the Civil Administration.

The restriction period covers Memorial Day, which begins Sunday night and ends Monday, and Independence Day (Yom Ha’atzmaut), which begins Monday night and ends Tuesday.

Checkpoint closures are standard IDF procedure on these dates to prevent an uprise in terror attacks on two of Israel’s major national holidays.
