The IDF is continuing to investigate the attack which occurred at a base north of Jerusalem early Friday morning. Two Arab terrorists attacked an IDF soldier, stole his weapon and ran off.
An initial investigation found that the two Arabs were able to penetrate the base’s perimeter fence and reached the soldier’s position without attracting his attention.
The investigation found that the two took advantage of the winter weather to sneak up on the soldier and attack him.
The soldier, who did not notice the two were sneaking up on him, responded quickly and began to confront them until they were able to take away his weapon. The investigation found that “because of the physical confrontation the soldier had trouble activating his weapon.”
IDF officials said on Friday afternoon that the attack was well planned in advance and stressed, according to a Channel 2 News report, that “this is a very serious incident which is being treated as a terror attack for all intents and purposes.”
IDF troops are still searching the area in an attempt to locate the two terrorists.
The incident on Friday morning is the latest in a series of terror attacks, as PA Arabs have rioted and attempted to carry out terror attacks in Hevron and throughout Judea and Samaria in recent days.
Two terror incidents occurred last week. In one incident last Thursday, members of an IDF unit stationed near Hevron shot an Arab terrorist as he prepared to throw a firebomb at them.
A day earlier, a female officer shot and killed a 17-year-old PA Arab terrorist who pulled a gun on Border Police officers near Hevron.
A police sapper who arrived subsequently to check out the gun determined that it was a fake gun. In response Arabs rioted in Hevron, where they hurled rocks and bottles at Israeli soldiers.
A video released by the IDF this week showed that the female soldiers was responding to a provocation by the 17-year-old and that she sensed her fellow officer was in danger. PA Arabs try to paint a picture that the teen was shot by the officer for no reason.
