IDF: 234 Rockets Have Hit Israel Since Operation Began

July 9, 2014

The IDF released on Wednesday night a summary of the second day of the counterterrorism Operation Protective Edge.

According to the summary, since midnight on Tuesday, 82 rockets have exploded in Israel, of which 21 were intercepted by the Iron Dome anti-missile system.

Since the beginning of the operation, 234 rockets have exploded in Israel, the IDF said. 61 rockets have been intercepted by Iron Dome and 590 targets in Gaza have been attacked.

Shortly after 11:00 p.m. a salvo of at least 40 rockets was fired from Gaza at southern Israel.

Most of the rockets exploded in open regions, and four were intercepted by Iron Dome.

Three people were injured when they crashed their car while driving near Kiryat Malachi and were surprised by the siren.

While most of the rockets have targeted southern Israel, Hamas has also fired some long-range missiles. Two Gaza rockets landed in the sea near Haifa, which is 165 kilometers (102 miles) away from Gaza.

Meanwhile, IDF Spokesman Brig. Gen. Moti Almoz said Wednesday evening that Chief of Staff Benny Gantz has approved all of the plans for an IDF ground offensive into Gaza.

Almoz added that the pressure on Gaza will grow in the coming hours and the IAF attacks will become even more intense.
