IAF Preempts Gaza Rocket Launch

An IAF drone strike on Saturday preempted a terror cell attempting to fire rockets into Israel from Gaza.

Israeli “aircraft thwarted a rocket launch in the southern Gaza Strip,” a military spokeswoman told AFP.

The two would-be terrorists were injured in the strike, which targeted a motorcycle in southern Gaza near Rafiah local medical officials said.

The IAF strike marked the first such action in Gaza since last month, when terror gangs in Gaza launched more than 200 rockets into southern Israel.

Israel’s counter-strikes targeting rocket launching cells operating from densely populated civilian areas in Gaza killed 26 – at least 21 of whom were terrorists.

A Grad rocket fired from Sinai landed in Eilat before dawn on Thursday. There were no physical injuries or property damage in the attack.

Security forces on Saturday discovered a second rocket, unexploded, from Thursday’s attack on Eilat.

Critics charge that Israel’s airstrikes-for-rockets security posture vis-a-vis Gaza has only served to perpetuate the poor security situation endured by its southern residents.

Following the Eilat attack, IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz said that Israel would find and strike at those seeking to harm Israelis.

“Anyone who tests us from near or far will find itself facing a strong and smart military prepared to defend Israel and defeat our enemies,” he said.
