Hezbollah Blamed for Deadly Bombing in Bahrain

March 4, 2014

The Lebanon-based Hezbollah terror group was blamed on Tuesday for a bombing in Bahrain a day earlier.

According to NOW Lebanon, the Deputy-Chairman of Dubai Police and Public Security Dahi Khalfan Tamim, said that a Hezbollah-trained operative perpetrated the blast on Monday that killed three police officers outside Bahrain’s Manama.

“The criminal who carried out the operation to assassinate the Emirati martyr, First Lieutenant Tareq Mohammed al-Shehhi, used to go to Lebanon and was given explosives training by Hezbollah,” Khalfan charged in a message on Twitter.

The police chief went on to accuse the Bahraini opposition of taking sides with Iran against Gulf States.

“The Bahraini opposition has become an enemy to the states of the Arabian Gulf and a close friend of the Persians [Iran],” he said, according to NOW Lebanon.

Bahrain has vowed to eliminate “terrorism” in the wake of Monday’s bombing, reported AFP.

Ministers at an extraordinary meeting pledged to “take the necessary measures to eradicate terrorist groups and those who support them,” the BNA state news agency said.

They asked the interior ministry “to carry on relentlessly its combat against terrorism” following Monday’s bomb attack.

At their meeting, the ministers also listed the little-known Al-Ashtar Brigades and Resistance Brigades among “terrorist groups,” in addition to the clandestine February 14 Coalition, BNA said.

Bahrain already blacklisted Hezbollah as a terrorist group last year, becoming the first Arab country to do so. The country cited evidence that Hezbollah was attempting to incite terrorism from abroad.

A Shiite-led uprising against the Bahraini kingdom was crushed in 2011, but security incidents and sporadic demonstrations have persisted, noted NOW Lebanon.
