Opposition leader MK Yitzhak Herzog, head of the Zionist Union party, on Tuesday called for his “separation plan” to be implemented in the wake of the terrorist attack in eastern Jerusalem, in which two Border Police officers were seriously wounded.
“I wish the wounded a quick recovery and call again to implement the separation plan to stop the attacks,” Herzog wrote on Twitter.
The Zionist Union chairman has recently said that the two-state solution is not viable now, and in his “separation plan” he is calling for unilateral steps to be taken by Israel to divide the country by building a massive fence separating between the Jews and Palestinian Arabs, unilaterally splitting the Jewish state.
He has said the Palestinian Authority (PA) would be given civilian authority over its region according to his plan, while the IDF would retain security authority until a peace deal is signed. He also called for a regional committee with Jordan, Egypt and other Arab states to advance the fight against terror groups and introduce “confidence building measures.”
MK Yoel Hasson (Zionist Union) also connected between the Jerusalem attack and the need to separate from the PA as planned by Herzog.
“Again a shooting attack against Jews in Jerusalem as a result of the continuing security failure of ‘Mr. Security’,” said Hasson, in a reference to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.
“The Likud government refuses to take the Palestinian villages around Jerusalem out of Israel, and this is the result,” he added.
“If Netanyahu and the Likud insist on connecting between Palestine and Jewish Jerusalem, they should not be surprised that the Jews are stabbed in the Israeli capital every day. The government would be better to start fighting terrorism instead of talking itself to death,” said Hasson.
Meanwhile, Science Minister Ofir Akunis (Likud) called on Tuesday evening to expel terrorists’ relatives without delay in light of the series of attacks in Petah Tikva, Jerusalem and Yafo.
“Israel is under a cruel and barbaric onslaught of terror attacks. We must take more aggressive measures, led by expelling terrorists’ families without delay,” Minister Akunis said.
Yisrael Beytenu chairman, MK Avigdor Liberman, also responded to the terror attacks, using them as a platform to attack the government’s policies.
“The onslaught of terror attacks throughout Israel that we experienced this afternoon is the direct result of the terror containment policies of Netanyahu and Ya’alon,” Liberman said, referring to Israel’s prime minister and defense minister.
“Until we fight terror like we need to, with determined steps and without stuttering, the terror will fight against us, will intensify and will attack more and more. There are no magical solutions to the war on terror. There is one clear thing that must be done – the use of an uncompromising iron fist,” Liberman added.
