Herzog: The public is tired of the radical left
March 5, 2016Opposition leader MK Yitzhak Herzog, head of the leftist Labor party which together with Hatnua forms the Zionist Union, spoke against the radical left at an event in Ramat Gan on Saturday morning.
“The public is tired of hearing about the radical left that accuses Israel for the situation without proposing solutions that preserve the security of Israel, and (of hearing about) the radical right that wants to force an unavoidable annexation of tons of Palestinians in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria on us,” said Herzog.
“Therefore, the separation plan that we initiated is the only initiative that comes to protect Israel as a Jewish, safe and democratic state,” claimed the MK, referencing his plan that he has recently been telling numerous senior US officials about.
According to Herzog “the radical right and the radical left prattle slogans that will lead us to ‘Israestine,’ a Jewish-Arab state between the Jordan (River) and the (Mediterranean) Sea.”
“Only we are proposing a plan that can be implemented tomorrow morning and which will reduce the wave of terror and change the reality.”
Herzog has recently said that the two-state solution is not viable now, and in his “separation plan” he is calling for unilateral steps to be taken by Israel to divide the country by building a massive fence separating between the Jews and Palestinian Arabs, unilaterally splitting the Jewish state.
He has said the Palestinian Authority (PA) would be given civilian authority over its region according to his plan, while the IDF would retain security authority until a peace deal is signed. He also called for a regional committee with Jordan, Egypt and other Arab states to advance the fight against terror groups and introduce “confidence building measures.”
Earlier in the event on Saturday, MK Erel Margalit called on Herzog not to postpone the advance elections in the Labor party, and said he is considering contending for leadership of the party. Margalit also called on former IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi to join the Labor party.
