Herzog: Labor Candidates ‘Look Like Winners’

Labor party head Yitzhak Herzog introduced his party’s Knesset list at an event Wednesday night, telling listeners that they were “looking at the new leaders of Israel. I have never been prouder.”

Shouting over the din of supporters proclaiming him as the next prime minister, he said “I believe we have the best group standing here,” standing on stage with the 20 Labor and Hatnua members.

The 20 were chosen to represent Labor in the upcoming Knesset elections in the party’s primaries on Tuesday. On stage with Herzog was Hatnua head Tzipi Livni, who is number two on the Labor list, and will, if Labor forms the government, switch off with Herzog as Prime Minister.

At the event in Kibbutz Shefayim, Herzog introduced several of the candidates.

“This is a dynamic list, with great faith and determination for the future of the country. I cannot recall this kind of determination for many years in the Labor party,” he said.

Herzog continued “this group is politically clean and hungry for change, to help the average Israeli who is facing a great deal of trouble, and to help provide solutions for problems like the high cost of living and housing issues, as well as security issues.”

“The great victory will come when we have the opportunity to take control of the government and begin repairing the damage caused by the current government,” claimed Herzog.

“Our victory will come when we can restore security, both national and economic, to all Israelis,” he added.
