Helicopter Evacuation as Families Remain Without Power, Water

Nearly 3,000 families in the Shilo and Binyamin regions have been cut off from both electricity and water for three days. Entire communities have been snowed in, leaving the families with nowhere to go.

One family that was in particular desperate straits was rescued from a town in the Binyamin region by helicopter on Sunday morning. The family’s three children were suffering hypothermia.

Dozens of rescues took place over the course of Saturday night, as well. IDF jeeps and volunteers with strong, four-wheel drive vehicles rescued dozens of families from freezing homes in the region.

On Saturday morning, the IDF worked with local authorities to evacuate a woman to hospital by helicopter after she went into labor in the community of Yitzhar, which was snowed in.

In Ofra, north of Jerusalem, a center has been set up for families whose homes are dangerously cold.

Schools remained closed Sunday in Jerusalem and in most towns in the Binyamin region, the Gush Etzion region, and the Hevron region. Schools remained closed in much of Samaria (Shomron) as well.
