Hamas is attempting to use a fire which broke out in the village of Duma in Samaria early this morning to incite a violent escalation in Judea and Samaria, security sources told Arutz Sheva.
Palestinian Authority security forces who investigated the fire, which took place in the same village as a deadly arson last month, said it was the result of an electrical short-circuit. There has also been some speculation over a possible criminal dispute within the village.
The fire damaged one room in the home, which belongs to a member of the extended family of last month’s arson victims, but no one was injured in the incident, the PA said.
However, Hamas media outlets immediately began circulating pictures of people it said were injured in the fire, and claiming it was the result of a “settler attack.”
An Israeli security source told Arutz Sheva that, regardless of the facts, Hamas is actively attempting to use the incident as a cynical tactic to provoke further attacks against Israelis in the area.
The Samaria region has been the site of several terrorist attacks in recent months, in which Israeli civilians and soldiers have been killed or wounded.
