A survey by Channel 2‘s Meet the Press found that 34 percent of respondents support separating Jewish and Arab women in hospital maternity wards.

Sixty-one percent opposed the practice, while five percent were undecided.

Despite this, 82 percent said they are comfortable with being treated by an Arab doctor and only 13 percent said they would not be comfortable. Again, five percent were undecided.

In addition, 42 percent of those questioned said that they are willing to live in the same building as Arabs, while 49 percent said they are not. Nine percent had no answer.

The pollsters questioned 505 Hebrew-speaking Israelis, though they did not say what the margin of error is.

Last week it was revealed that most hospitals in Israel separate Jewish and Arab mothers to various extents. MK Bezalel Smotrich has since come under strong criticism for supporting the practice.
