Unity is the true theme of Memorial Day, Professor Simcha Goldin, the father of abducted IDF soldier Hadar Goldin, stated Tuesday.
“If on Memorial Day we remain divided, then we have no right to move on Independence Day,” Goldin stated to Army Radio. “Memorial Day is not meant only for bereaved families, but for the entire nation that to do some soul-searching without limits.”
Goldin noted his belief in the national character of the day despite his own status, currently, as a bereaved parent.
“Because Hadar was very close to us, we know how to act according to his command,” he reflected. “Every time I run into the challenge, I think, what would Hadar do? This is how we live.”
The body of Hadar Goldin, who was killed during that war in the summer of 2014, remains in the hands of Hamas terrorists. He has since been memorialized as an artist, as well as a beloved brother, twin, and son.
His body, and that of fellow slain IDF soldier Oron Shaul, have been used as bargaining chips by Hamas – who are holding on to them to try to force Israel to make concessions, including freeing terrorists.
Memorial Day (Yom Hazikaron) will be observed nationwide from 8:00 pm Tuesday until Wednesday night.
