Global Village 2012 Conference to Launch in Jerusalem
June 10, 2012“Global Village 2012” – The International Conference on Diaspora-Homeland Partnerships – is set to launch in Jerusalem on Monday.
The three-day conference will focus on diplomatic and government aspects of Diaspora relations and how that impacts on Israel and the Jewish People in general. Workshops at the gathering will also address the issues around establishing strategic links and cooperation between the Diaspora countries and Israel.
In addition, the conference will stress the activities and past experience of the State of Israel in establishing programs in coordination with the Diaspora entities, and how those programs have worked out.
Public Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs Minister Yuli Edenstein will open the conference, which is sponsored by the ministry in cooperation with the Foreign Ministry and the american Jewish Joint Distribution Committee’s Center for International Migration and Integration.
“Migration on a global level has become one of the most significant phenomena of the present age,” noted Edelstein in a statement about the upcoming conference.
“The phenomenon which has grown due to social, economic and diplomatic changes that have taken place in the last century has created a situation in which every country has a significant diaspora.
“More and more countries recognize that the current ‘global village’ has created almost unlimited opportunities for cooperation with diaspora communities, and that this is a strategic value of the highest order.
“We have found it appropriate to initiate this conference in Jerusalem in light of the considerable international interest in the Israeli example as a model.”
