The Knesset security captain on Friday decided to deploy a fixed security detail to Likud MK Amir Ohana, over fears that activists of the LGBT homosexual community would attack him during the “gay pride march” in Tel Aviv on Friday.

Ohana, who is himself homosexual, announced that he would take part in the gay pride march despite having received death threats from gay activists.

The 38-year-old politician is a lawyer by trade, a reserve IDF major and former Israeli Security Agency (ISA or Shin Bet) member. He entered the Knesset last December when Minister Silvan Shalom (Likud) resigned.

Ohana has been harshly condemned and threatened by members of the LGBT community for not taking part in votes on bills seeking to give more rights to homosexuals in Israel.

Homosexuality is strictly forbidden by Judaism, which may possibly explain Ohana’s awkward position as a member of the Likud party that is largely viewed as nationalistic and conservative.

In response to the threats the Knesset Guard decided not to take any chances and to place a security detail on Ohana out of concerns that radical activists of the LGBT community would harm him during the march.
