Five Dead, Including Children, in Shooting Near Atlanta

A shooting about 20 miles west of Atlanta has left five people dead, authorities said Saturday, according to USA Today.

Seven victims, including children, were found both inside and outside of a house when police were called to the scene around 3:00 p.m. ET, the police said.

Investigators are not releasing the relationship of the shooter to the victims, but neighbors said a family of five children, a husband and a wife lived in the house.

Authorities have not released their names because family members have not yet been notified, USA Today noted.

The shooter, an adult male, was among those found injured and was transported to a local hospital where he later died, a local police official said. Some of the victims died on the way to the hospital; the two survivors are children.

A motive in the shootings was not immediately clear.

Douglas County Coroner Randy Daniel told CNN that investigators were “still trying to sort this out” when asked whether the gunman and his victims were related.

Douglas County chief deputy Stan Copeland told the Atlanta-based WSB-TV that in his 38 years on the job “(he’d) never seen this many victims in one shooting.”

“Neighbors are in shock,” Copeland said.
