First Hand Account of Bin Laden Raid to be Released on 9/11

The Penguin publishing company announced Wednesday that it has plans to release a book that provides a detailed, first person account of the raid that killed Osama bin Laden, Fox news reported.

The book, “No Easy Day: The Firsthand Account of the Mission That Killed Osama Bin Laden,” which is written under a pseudonym by a Navy SEAL who participated in the mission, is set to be released on Sept. 11.

The Pentagon and CIA said that the book had not been evaluated by either department to prevent any unwanted classified information from being released.  The officials said that they are unaware of the SEAL’s identity, but say that the co-autho is a well respected journalist, Fox news reported.

Lt. Cmdr. Chris Servello, a Navy spokesman, said the anonymous author may face harsh repercussions if secrets are revealed. “Any service member who discloses classified or sensitive information could be subject to prosecution–this doesn’t end when you leave the service,” Servello said.  “There is nothing unique to the special warfare community in this regard.”

A spokesman of the Penguin Group said that all proceeds from the book will be donated to charitable causes that benefit the families of fallen Navy SEALs.

A group of former military and intelligence officials recently launched a campaign against President Obama, accusing him of claiming undue credit for the Osama bin Laden raid and suggesting the administration leaked classified security information for the purpose of political gain.
